House Guide

Here you will find some information to make our time together as easy as possible.

Topic Description
Stay Feel free to move around the house or spend time on the terrace. The children may also enjoy playing. However, our parents’ bedroom is off limits.
Food You are warmly invited to join us for meals. Usually we have a hot lunch (around noon) and a cold dinner in the evening (between 18:00 and 18:30) with bread, cheese, cold cuts, etc.
Guest Book Since my childhood, this house has been visited by travellers. Originally through Servas, nowadays through Couchsurfing and by friends. There is a guest book you can look through. You’re welcome to leave an entry too — we’d be delighted.
Guest Room Our guest room is in the basement. However, it is wood-panelled and should have plenty of charm. It is very quiet down there and in summer it is the coolest spot in the house — which doesn’t mean it’s cold in winter.
We apologise that part of the room still serves as storage for us. But if a book interests you, feel free. There are many different genres. We’re happy to advise. In the living room we also have a comic and manga collection.
Lighting In this house the switches and the lights they control are independent. In passageways such as the hallway and basement there are motion sensors that switch on and off automatically. In the “living rooms” there are light switches with 4 buttons each:
OnScene 1
OffScene 2
Travel Books Next to the bed in the guest room there is a small shelf with travel books and maps from here and from our international travels. Be inspired.
Sleeping We have a comfortable guest bed with 2 high-quality mattresses (220 × 90 cm each). There are 2 sides: text normal = soft side, text upside down = firm side.
We have one shared duvet for two. If you prefer otherwise, there are also 2 individual ones.
For friends, the covers are freshly changed each time.
For Couchsurfing, we may not change them after every night. We are not a hotel. But feel free to change them yourself if you wish, or just ask.
It is absolutely quiet down there. You may hear sounds of what seems like mice behind the panelling. That is a pipe in which there may be an air bubble. We don’t know. This sound has occasionally been there since 1980.
SIM We have a guest SIM card if your mobile plan doesn’t include a data package for Switzerland.
Drinking, Water Our drinking water is pure spring water from the Saxettal. It is fresh and perfectly safe to drink. Bottled water, on the other hand, is already old by the time you drink it. The children and we normally only drink water. Soft drinks very rarely. You may find a beer in the fridge. Help yourself.
Toilet, Shower We have 2 toilets: one on the ground floor, one on the upper floor. The doors are blue. Please use the ground floor one for brushing teeth. You’re welcome to take a towel from the shelf.
You can shower upstairs. However, when school is on or we need to get to work, please leave us enough time to get ready. Our core time is 06:30 to 07:30. Otherwise just speak to us.
WiFi, Internet Our guest network is called “happyguest”. The password is “happiness”. We have a fibre connection. The house has various antennas and should cover all corners well. Use it until the cables glow. However, please avoid any illegal activities. If you plan to do that, use a VPN service.
